Powder is suspended via air in the hopper, this allows for easier transfer to the spray gun. Certain powders, such as metallics and textured powders, work better in a fluidized hopper versus a box feeder. The air that is used to fluidize the powder, also serves to condition and dry. This allows the powder to be transferred to the gun and sprayed onto the part more consistently, with less wear & tear on spare parts.
